Craftsman / Ranch Elevation Styles

Influenced by the English Arts and Crafts movement of the late 19th century, but evolved through the work of California architects. It ultimately became a popular vernacular style due to its appearance in pattern books and mail-order catalogs.  Characterized by front facing, low pitch gable or cross gable roofs with flat tile and stucco walls.  The infusion of wood details includes shaped barge boards, outlookers, knee braces, shingle siding accents and porch columns.  The horizontal character of the style is emphasized by wide overhangs, gangled single-hung windows, window grids at upper half of windows, window trip, application of the siding, and stone wainscot and column piers. The result is a warm, natural exterior with artful elements.  This style has evolved into the timeless California Craftsman and Classic California Ranch elevation styles.

Spanish Romantica Elevation Style

This style evolved in California and the southwest as a response to available materials and the Spanish influence.  The style adapted and was infused with Latin American, Moroccan and Mediterranean elements and details.  It attained wide-spread popularity with the Panama-California Exposition of 1915.  The most notable characteristics include the use of low pitched "S" tile roofs, stucco walls, arched entry porticos, plank shutters and recessed accent windows.  The charm of this style lies not only in its directness, adaptability and contrast of materials and textures, but in its ability to evolve within itself.  Thus, the detailed stucco corbel at a garage opening can be applied to a gable eave to create a memorable detail.

  • Our impressive and practical extra wide front entry doors are designed for the purpose of the Rebuild efforts; being 3'6" wide x 8' high (versus 3').
  • Larger, higher windows allow an abundance of natural light in all living areas, master suite and optional multi-generational suite.
  • Master suites are designed with wider halls leading to suite, entry doors and doors entering into the walk-in closets, and bath areas.
  • All optional multi-generational suites are designed with wider halls, entry doors and doors entering into the walk-in closets, and bath areas.
  • Main/ground floor master bath offers easy access shower, tile flooring and most offer shower seats.
  • We have minimized number of stairs entering from garage, front and rear entries for easy and safe access (lot and foundation specific).
  • We will frame solid wood back in typical areas considered for future grab bars, if desired.
  • Kohler comfort height toilets are provided for ease of use, being 2" taller than a standard toilet.
